Resident Joann Johnson is Enjoying a Worry-Free Lifestyle at The Fountains

Maintaining a home can be costly, and Joann Johnson was done paying the price. Now her lifestyle is upkeep and worry-free.

“I am tired of paying taxes and utilities and homeowners insurance and the gardener and the housekeeping and the maintenance, etc., because when you move into The Carlotta all that is taken care of for you.” – Joann Johnson, resident of The Fountains at The Carlotta

You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. Joann has always had an exciting life. Born and raised in Los Angles, California, and a graduate of Life Bible College, she went on to work for the sheriff’s department as a stenographer in a homicide bureau, calling it the best job she ever had. Once retired, Joann lived with her mother but when her mom passed, Joann was left alone in a house much too big and even after downsizing to a condo, still she found herself with more than she wanted to manage. Putting her faith and her best foot forward, Joann decided to make the move. Now her space is just the right size and the view of her backyard – a courtyard, pool and lots of trees and flowers, are hers to enjoy minus the trouble.

Moving to a retirement community doesn’t mean giving up that feeling of home. Joann moved her furniture and belongings into her 1,200 square foot, two-bedroom two-bath apartment and with the help of The Fountains, had it arranged just to her liking, without having to lift a finger. Unboxing peace of mind is easier than you think. Saving yourself from worries of the unknown is the greatest move you’ll ever make. “So, when moving day came everything was set to go and they put everything in place just beautifully and then the next day they would come back and change anything that you wanted changed from here to there. They made it very, very easy. It was different than when you move yourself and have movers come and they place things but still you have to do all the work. But I didn’t really have to do anything.” – Joann Johnson

Change is inevitable but if you plan it right, it may be your best move yet. Joann knew she couldn’t live alone forever so she decided to be proactive and research her options. Although independent now, she knows The Fountains is the right place for her today, tomorrow and years to come with the various levels of care. “…I loved living in my home… It’s a good thing to face reality and realize that if it’s getting to be too much for you there are other options. And one of the best ones is moving into independent living where they not only have the independent, they have assisted living and skilled nursing capability.” – Joann Johnson

Joann may be retired but she keeps a full schedule with all of the activities conveniently available at The Fountains. From exercising five times a week, to gospel sing along and bible study, she says there is always something going on. “And if they are active getting older maybe it’s harder to get to places where they can participate in activities. They don’t see as many people that often; where here you just walk down the hall or out in the courtyard, the casitas of course you have to walk outside for that. You see people and everybody is friendly.” – Joann Johnson
