Since 1948, May has been observed as National Foster Care Month. To celebrate, Carlotta Cares, the philanthropic group of volunteer residents and associates from The Fountains at the Carlotta, is sponsoring a Rock and Roll-a-thon to benefit local children in foster care. This year’s theme is “It’s All Relative: Supporting Kinship Connections.”
On Saturday, May 19, residents, their families, Carlotta associates and other friends will gather at The Carlotta, 41-505 Carlotta Drive in Palm Desert, between 8 and 11 a.m. and “roll” around the mile-long driveway at The Carlotta by bike, wheelchair or any other wheeled apparatus. For those that prefer to observe, rocking chairs will be available under the porte-cochere.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the event or an individual or participating is encouraged to contact Ronn Ellenich at (760) 325-9277 for more information. A barbecue lunch will be available to all participants at 11:30 a.m.
“Carlotta Cares has currently raised more than $1,000 and we hope to increase that number at the Rock and Roll-a-thon this Saturday with the community’s help,” said Ronn Ellenich, executive director of The Fountains at the Carlotta. “The funds will be donated to the County of Riverside Foster Care Services, an organization that welcomes children from very difficult situations, often arriving with no possessions other than the clothing they are wearing. Foster Care Services will utilize the funds to purchase gift cards to local department stores where the children will be able to shop and choose their own clothing, creating a sense of control and ownership.”
Later in the day, residents of The Carlotta will be showing off their classic cars and lounging in the Carlotta Malt Shop as the W Lounge and TC Auditorium is transformed into a 1950s diner with fresh burgers, hot fries and classic milkshakes.
